While Bordeaux and Burgundy get most of the hype, the wines of the Rhone River are some of the best wines in world. Last November we tasted wines from the most prestigious appellations of the Northern Rhone, and in April we will taste wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the most highly regarded of Southern Rhone appellations. Along with the high prestige of those AOCs come high prices. But there are many, many wines produced in the Rhone region, particularly the southern Rhone, and over the last few decades some of these villages have been recognized with their own AOC designations, principally east of the Rhone, from the river to the Dentelles de Montmirail Mountains. These appellations are producing very good wines and at muc
h lower price points than their more famous Rhone “cousins”. So, at this tasting event, we will sample these other, lesser-known wines of the Southern Rhone region. The most notable of these other AOCs are Gigondas and Vacqueyras, which will be our focus, but we will also sample representatives of a few other appellations.

The Other Rhones: Southern Rhones from the Eastern Margins

Saturday, March 12, 2016

7:00 pm

Hosted by Jeff and Ann Clark

1909 E Rose Creek Parkway S, Fargo

$25 members, $30 non-members

Please RSVP by Thursday, March 10

France has long been regarded as the source of great wines.
