I alway say if you can’t grow hair on top, you might as well grow it somewhere. I’m not sure why I decided to let my beard grow. But I have decided that no matter how itchy it gets, I’m not going to shave it until I reach my goal weight of 180 pounds. That’s about 55 pounds away from now.

Steaming seven
It is HOT out side. I planned to get up early and run before it got too bad but I slept instead. Well, the old body did need some rest as I hit the gym pretty hard this week and my muscles are sore. I gout out about 9 am when the temps were around 75. It was HOT and HUMID. I ran shirtless. Frankly I don’t care anymore if people are offended by the flab. It’s life and I’m working on it. Seven miles of sweat later I’m glad I got my lazy butt out the door.
I am down almost 16 pounds since the beginning of May. I should be further along but life gets in the way. At least I’m moving in the right direction.
Swinging wildly
I’ve been trying. Really trying. But my weight loss seems to be going so slowly. And my weight is fluctuating madly lately. One day I’m down 8 pounds, the next I’m back up 6. Just when I think I’m getting a handle on things I weigh myself and feel so bloated. Obviously this is water weight that is swinging around. It has to do with how much salt I am taking in, the amount of running I am doing (or not doing) and my food choices. There is no way a 10 pound swing in a week is fat. I guess that’s why I continue to watch the long term trend which indicates I am on track losing 1-2 pounds a week. This is why following a daily weight is madly frustrating. I would not recommend it.
Hot Humid Holiday Race
It was HOT and HUMID and the sun was brutal. The annual MSUM Firecracker 10K was held out at Bluestem this year rather than in Moorhead on tree-lined streets. There was no shade in sight.
They also included a 5K route this year. The 10K was an out and back 5K which was done twice. There was one aid station at the 1.5 mile mark so us 10Kers got to hit it twice. And I have to say, on a day like today, it was so necessary.
I started off pretty good with the first couple of miles on fresh legs managing about a 9:00 pace. but I started to feel the heat on the third mile. When I finished one 5K loop I was second guessing my decision to do the 10K and considered for just a brief moment to not do the second loop. But off I went. I was beginning to slow but after mile 4 I started to really feel the heat and I was getting nauseous. Thank goodness for the aid station where I walked and picked up some much needed powerade and water. I picked it up again for the last mile and finished strong. All in all I was glad I did the whole 10K and pushed myself.
