Greetings wine lovers. The Red River Valley AWS is starting off the 2024 wine tasting season with a bang. Our next gathering will be featuring amazing sparkling wines from France. When you say French bubbly, the first thing that comes to mind is Champagne. Certainly Champagne is the most recognized and popular of the French sparkling wines, but many other regions of the country produce equally delicious festive bubbly drinks. And the good news is, because they are often overshadowed by the Dom Perignons, they are attainable at very reasonable prices making it affordable to celebrate in style! Similar to Champagne, a wine labeled as Crémant must be carbonated by natural fermentation in the bottle, not force carbonated in bulk. This allows the natural breakdown of the yeast in the bottle to build complexity in the wines. Unlike Champagne, which are really just “Crémants” from the Champagne region, other grapes besides the traditional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay or Pinot Meunier, may end up in the wines. Encompassing a wider range of terroirs and wine growing regions, French Crémants have a broad array of flavors and styles. Join us for a wine tasting experience that explores these ‘Unsung Heros’ of French sparklers.
