Santa Barbara County, located on the Central Coast of California, is well known for exceptional wine and not just Pinot Noir. Syrah shines in they Santa Ynez valley and surrounding areas. Santa Barbara’s cool maritime influence and east-west orientation of its valleys create a range of microclimates within a relatively small area. The cooling breezes from the Pacific Ocean and the transverse mountain ranges allow for a longer growing season and slow ripening of the grapes, resulting in wines with depth and complexity. The cool climate allows the grapes to retain more acidity in Santa Barbara than Syrah from warmer regions. Because of the diversity of microclimates, winemakers have a lot of leeway in the styles of Syrah they produce ranging from medium-bodied fruity wines to bold full-bodied reds with intensity and power. Join us for a unique tasting through Santa Barbara County.
