MI-wineDid you know that the State of Michigan, with it’s two great peninsulas surrounded by the great lakes, has more miles of coastline than any other state in the country? It is this coastline and the tempering affects of the great lakes on the winter temperatures that create an ideal area for growing wine grapes. On the shores of Lake Michigan in the southwest part of the state and the small peninsulas around the Grand Traverse Bay in the northwest part of the state world class wines are being produced. Indeed, the 45th parallel, the same latitude that Bordeaux finds itself on, runs right through the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas where fantastic whites, fragrant Loire-style rosés and surprisingly good red wines are being poured in million dollar tasting rooms overlooking the lake and bay. I consider it one of America’s most underrated wine regions. And on Saturday, July 12, 2014 you have the opportunity to taste the flavors that are purely Michigan.
