In the world of fortified wines (wines with added spirits), we are mostly familiar with ports. But there is a whole world of fortified wines made in many different styles. We will be exploring sherry and madeira wines from Spain and Portugal. Sherry originates from the Andalusia region of southern Spain and derives its name from the province it comes from, Jerez de la Frontera. Sherry wines range in style from dry, light and refreshing to rich and sweet. Essential to sherry is the unique process of aging the wines with very controlled oxidation and the development of a flor yeast on the surface. This provides unique nutty flavors to the wine. These wines are also blends of different vintages to balance the mature flavors with freshness from younger wines. Madeira comes from the island of Madeira, located off the coast of Portugal. These wines are also made in a unique way that involves a heating and aging process as the warm Atlantic breezes flow through the barrel rooms. This produces its own unique aged flavors that are slightly oxidized and also range from dry and acidic to rich and sweet. Join us for a unique wine tasting as we explore the world of sherry and madeira.

*Note: This tasting will be held at Rose Creek Golf Course. We will be in the lower level. Feel free to bring your favorite pot-luck foods to this venue.
